Worship

Worship

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
John 4:23

The worship God requires of us is not simply singing a few songs and repeating a few prayers for a couple of hours each Sunday. Although most Christians would happily agree this statement to be true, unfortunately this is the reality of many Christian lives as the Lord is crowded out with the things of this world.

We are no different in the way that we too devote time and effort to lifting the name of Jesus together as we meet to worship him. Our worship team comprises of experienced worship leaders, and also younger people who are only on the beginning of their walk with the Lord Jesus, and we see great merit in this ministry. However we strongly refrain from putting across the false notion that this alone is our worship.

The worship spoken of in the above verse of Scripture comes from the original Greek word "proskuneo", which describes the action of laying down to the lowest point before the one being worshipped. Similar to the action of religious worshippers who bow down their heads to the floor as they worship.

Obviously we are not advocating this practice within our fellowship, for it is only a physical expression of a heart attitude. But with regards to the attitude of worship that action portrays, we advocate it wholeheartedly.

The worship the Lord actively seeks, is the complete laid down life of the believer, completely laid down in the death of baptism alongside Christ, that His life may fill every area of their new life, through the power of His Holy Spirit. There is no other way, and no other form of worship that is anything less than detestable to God Almighty.

Therefore by all means lift up praise and thanksgiving to the Lord Jesus at all times, and in all circumstances, for this is wonderfully pleasing to God. However if you seek to be considered by Him to be a true worshipper in spirit and truth, then seek to embrace death to self in every area of your life, that the wondrous beauty of Christ Himself may shine through you magnificently.

This is our worship, and there is no other that is worthy of this offering of ourselves, other than Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
